About

After its success in Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru and Mombasa, Usikimye and Creatives Garage are teaming up with UN Women and Alliance Française Nairobi to bring Maskan back to Nairobi during the 16 days of activism. The Maskan exhibition, curated by Thayu, will take place at Alliance Française from 5-11th December 2025. This art installation seeks to confront the reality of femicide in Kenya. Maskan, from the Swahili word for dwelling or home, evokes a sense of peace, comfort, and safety. However, in this installation, it transforms into the dark reality where too many homes have become crime scenes, and too many women never make it out alive. This immersive exhibition bears witness to the reality of femicide through powerful visuals, installations, artifacts, soundscapes, and personal stories. Each item, like a dress, a shoe, a scarf, a memento, or a relic, tells the story of a life cut short and a dream shattered. Curated by Thayu in collaboration with Usikimye and Creatives Garage, this exhibition transforms grief into resistance, a call for justice, a protest, and a call to action. Visitors are invited to look, feel, remember, and ensure their names echo louder than their silence.
