Rewind Remix Reclaim is a first-of-its-kind festival commemorating the 40th anniversary of the UN World Conference on Women held in Nairobi in July 1985. Taking place over the same dates as the 1985 event, the festival is an artistic exploration of the conference's legacy through the lens of today’s feminist movements and global & local socio-political shifts. The event features feminist videos and film screenings, panel discussions and workshops, experiential art installations, and performances. Through an open call, four female artists were selected to create works reflecting on specific topics discussed during the conference four decades ago and the progress made by society thus far. The artworks invite the audience to reflect on their topics, some through participatory formats. The festival also revisits activities from the original conference, such as self-defense courses, artists' talks, workshops, and talks, in a vibrant and exciting atmosphere. Some participants of the original conference will feature in the panels.
